buuurn!

You know when Dane Cook tells you off, it's bad.

new blood

Have you ever been to the website RCRD LBL? I stumbled upon it recently, and it's awesome-- they have a mp3 of the day newsletter you can sign up for. They have a bunch of songs from well-known to brand-new artists up on their site, and there are quite a few gems in there. A lot of them are remixes, and those are always worth a listen-- I'm really digging !Illmind's remix of Common's "I Want You." It's such a sweet, googly-eyed remix.

Also, the Diplo remix of Private's "My Secret Lover" has been on repeat on my iTunes. It's addictive.

haircut 2

My hair's been acting the fool lately.

Well sort of. I stopped conditioning it every day to let the natural oils do their work, and as a result, my normally fine hair has gotten a bit thicker and much healthier. Which is what I wanted, but I didn't realize that as a result my hair would assume a triangular shape. Think Mia from the Princess Diaries movie, pre-make over.

I love the princess diaries. It's one of my favorite book series/movies of all time.
Who doesn't love make-over sequences?

But anyhow, here are a few pictures of haircuts I like. I like not having to condition regularly-- my hair got oily pretty quickly when regular conditioning was the norm-- so my solution is to cut it short. Really short.

What do you think?

ooooooh ahhhhh

One of my secret loves: the Sartorialist.

As such, I'm really excited for the Sartorialist book to come out! There's a sneak peak up on A Cup of Jo.

Science Students for the Conservation of Sanity: Some NYT Awesomeness

How cool is this? The manufacturing of molecule-sized machines from DNA for medical use is awesoooooome! But their use of the phrase "curvy DNA"... is that a colloquial term?

movie theater time!

Meryl Streep looks super-happy in these pictures.
feel-good movie + happy characters + food = excitement!

Julia & Julia looks scrumptious-- any movie about cooking can count me in! Oh, and any movie with Meryl Streep in it, too. It's a shame that movie theaters don't allow outside food; popcorn just wouldn't cut it here. Eating macarons or something totally cooking-channel worthy during the movie would totally round out the movie-going experience.

Lately, I've been uber-obsessed with macarons-- as soon as I can eat solids again, I'm totally making these!

Another one I'm excited for: Eat, Pray, Love. After seeing the book pretty much EVERYWHERE for the past year or so, I caved in a few months ago and got myself a copy. Best impulse buy ever! It was like taking a nice bubble bath, except the bubbles didn't run out, the water stayed warm, and my fingers didn't get raisin-y. After reading it, I felt refreshed.

{Picture from here.}

So the movie is definitely something I'm looking forward too, especially since one of my favorite actresses-- Julia Roberts-- is playing Liz Gilbert, the author and main character of the book.

I love uplifting movies! Just thinking about these two (and macarons) makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

greetings from bed!

I'm on day six of recovery from my tonsillectomy. It's been downright nasty at times-- scabs, bad breath, and bad memory. The painkillers have made the days go by in a blur, but I've had my family and seasons of The Office to make life bearable. The second half of today I've been feeling comparatively good and haven't felt the need to take my pain medication, so I'm optimistic about the remainder of my recovery.

Anyhow, I just found what could be the cutest article on wikipedia. I can't stop going "awwwwwwwwwwww" as I read through it.

fall 2009

Fall has always been my favorite season. Crisp air, wood smoke and crunchy leaves are some of my favorite things about it. But my favorite is the clothes: long scarves that swallow you, earthy wool, and chunky cable-knit sweaters in rich plums and verdant greens. And plaids, greys, and leather.

How I wish I could dress everyday.
the usual

A pretty accurate depiction of how I dress everyday (with some additions: I only wished I owned that watch... or had a watch at all), right down to my backpack and the three things I always carry around. And yes, those are hair ties. At any given moment, there are at least a dozen strewn throughout my backpack and pockets. Not shown: huge binders full of bio and chem notes, enormous Kiki's Delivery service pencil case, and the belt I borrowed from my housemate.

A bunch of funny, sometimes poignant, little things I've found in the past week or so.

I love this picture of Michael. That look on his face totally says "EAT IT, CAVIC."

Maryland loves you!
